Spiritual Consultant

Reverend Twyla D. McClatchy — Spiritual Consultant for Intergalactic Plot Coherence

Role: Emotional Logic Coordinator, Barbie Canon Chaplain, Martian Theology Expert
*Byline: Paxlin Monroe, Faith & Film Weekly

“When Barbie said, ‘I am become sparkle, destroyer of norms,’ I told the director: That’s Genesis and Nietzsche. Let’s polish the line with glitter and gospel.”

That moment, and many more, would not have landed without the quiet brilliance of Reverend Twyla D. McClatchy, an ordained minister, licensed aromatherapist, and part-time Barbie collector from Henrietta, Texas. She was hired to ensure that the film’s plot, however interstellar, retained a spiritually consistent Barbie-core emotional arc.

“Barbie is no longer just plastic. She’s mythic. And myth needs a Bible… or at least a scented scroll.”

The Calling

Twyla didn’t set out to become Barbie’s spiritual doula. She led a congregation of 18 in a small clapboard church beside a feed store and moonlighted as a dramaturg for local puppet shows. Her sermon titles included:

  • “Thou Shalt Not Tone-Police the Glitterati”

  • “Paul’s Letter to the Dreamhouse”

  • “Jonah and the Big Pink Purse”

When Barbie 2: Mars Mission reached out to faith-based consultants to bridge Barbie lore and Martian myth, Twyla responded with a 73-page theological thesis titled “From Bethlehem to the Beauty Pageant: The Barbie as Christ Archetype.”

She got the job that afternoon.

Spiritual Integrity in Script Rewrites

McClatchy’s job was to ensure that Barbie’s journey to Mars reflected:

  • The spiritual yearnings of womanhood

  • The canonical consistency of Dreamhouse scripture

  • Martian belief systems, as extrapolated through glitter-based anthropology

She worked daily with:

  • Writers: to prevent plot sins like Chronological Vanity or Overused Redemption Arcs

  • Actors: to help Gosling understand “Ken’s crisis of faith in himself as a backup vocalist in a girl-power galaxy”

  • Props: to vet any object that “might spiritually contradict Malibu’s Sacred Beach Teachings”

“We cut one scene where Barbie baptizes a Martian using hair gel and hope. It was moving, but theologically dense.”

Barbie’s Cosmic Baptism

A pivotal scene had Barbie walk barefoot across Martian soil, scattering glitter as she recited a cosmic affirmation:

“I am enough, even on a planet where I’m not technically allowed to vote.”

Twyla guided the tone of the monologue to channel Florence Nightingale, RuPaul, and the Book of Psalms.

“It’s faith, but fabulous. Martian Psalms. Galactigospel.”

Sermons on Set

Every Wednesday, Twyla hosted an optional 7 a.m. “Glitter & Grace” devotional. Attendees included:

  • Margot Robbie, who cried during “The Epistle to the Kens”

  • A vegan gaffer who confessed he’d “lost faith in sequins”

  • Four local Baptists who now claim Barbie is “the pink Mary Magdalene”

Each service ended with a communion of iced coffee and cupcakes shaped like tiny galactic handbags.

The Ken Crisis

Gosling’s performance nearly collapsed during a scene where Ken questions his role in Barbie’s legacy.

“He asked, ‘If I’m not her accessory, what am I?’ He sobbed into a moon boot. I told him: You are witness to her glow. You illuminate by proximity.”

That pep talk is now framed in the wardrobe trailer.

Writing the Martian Psalter

McClatchy was tasked with composing the sacred chants of the Martian Council, a race of shimmering, wise drag beings who demand Barbie’s spiritual proof of worth. Her texts include:

  • “The Liturgy of Lucite Heels”

  • “Parable of the Sassy Meteorite”

  • “The Book of Internal Monologue: Dreamhouse Edition”

These were read aloud during scenes requiring “emotional gravitas without logical coherence.”

Local Outreach

Twyla conducted Barbie-themed Bible studies at:

  • Wichita Falls Public Library, where they discussed Leviticus in the context of Barbie’s wardrobe

  • Midwestern State University, where she delivered a lecture titled “Paul, Ken, and Patriarchal Redemption”

  • El Chico’s Restaurant, where a waiter asked for a glitter blessing before proposing to his girlfriend with a ring hidden inside a Barbie shoe

“Theology doesn’t always need incense. Sometimes it just needs glitter glue and trust.”

McClatchy’s Barbie Canon

She proposed a New Testament of Barbie, including:

  • Barbie 1:1 – “In the beginning was plastic, and it was molded good.”

  • Ken 3:7 – “And Ken said, ‘I too am capable of hair volume.’”

  • Glowians 2:5 – “Thou shalt not dull thy sparkle for others.”

These were used to inspire on-set dialogue and lunchbox art.

Legacy & Martian Faith

The Martian species in the film follow The Path of the Eternal Curl, a belief system rooted in 1960s perm-culture. Twyla built their theology from scratch:

  • Their gods are Glorax (the goddess of angles) and Demi-Tone (the god of blush)

  • Their communion involves humming affirmations while holding a compact mirror

  • They believe the soul leaves the body through the fingernails during karaoke

“I just asked: What would a glitter-based society believe? And then I baptized a lava lamp and let the Spirit move.”

Final Benediction

On the final day, Twyla stood on the sand set, sprinkled lavender-scented glitter into the wind, and offered this blessing:

“May your outfits be intentional, may your dreams defy gravity, and may your plastic never crack under cosmic doubt.”

The crew wept. One atheist key grip was reportedly “spiritually rattled in a good way.”

Twyla now plans to open The Church of Intergalactic Barbie Consciousness, just outside Wichita Falls city limits. She’s writing a hymnal titled Songs in the Key of Pink.

“This wasn’t a film. This was a spiritual rebrand.”
