Head of Intergalactic Nutrition

Posted on August 10, 2026 by Funmi Iyanda Abeba

Griselda Tumbleton — Head of Intergalactic Nutrition and Culinary Director

Role: Lead On-Set Chef, Cosmic Meal Planner, Inventor of Space Hummus and Glitter Goulash
Byline: Delphine Cabbage, Culinary Cinephile Quarterly

“If Barbie’s going to colonize Mars, she better not do it hungry.”

When Griselda Tumbleton walks into a room, it smells like coconut oil, feminist resolve, and four types of imported chickpeas. The 61-year-old culinary savant from Wichita Falls was plucked from semi-retirement (and a particularly lucrative potluck circuit) to lead the Barbie 2: Mars Mission culinary team, feeding cast, crew, extras, and—crucially—providing in-universe alien meals for the Martian banquet scenes.

“Barbie doesn’t just eat. She redefines consumption as a statement of self-worth.”

From Local Chili Cook-Off to Martian Canteen

Tumbleton once ran “Eat Pray Slay,” a food truck that specialized in casseroles infused with herbal affirmations. Her most popular dish: Kale Yeah, Empowered Lasagna.

A location scout for Barbie 2 tasted her pink beet hummus at a Wichita Falls open mic night (served in Barbie Dreamhouse-themed Tupperware), and within a week, Griselda had a contract with Warner Bros and a mission: feed 126 people, three times a day, plus fabricate Martian cuisine from scratch.

Barbie’s On-Set Diet

Margot Robbie requested a “glow-positive” menu that balanced “cosmic indulgence with responsible carbs.” Tumbleton’s answer?

================================

  • Solar Flare Smoothies – Mango, turmeric, electrolytes, and a splash of emotional validation

  • Power Quinoa Constellations – Gluten-free orzo sculpted into the shape of feminist constellations (The Empoweress, The Shattered Ceiling, etc.)

  • Martian Mood Macarons – Edible color-changing cookies that shifted based on Ken’s vibe on set

“One day Gosling ate three. His aura turned mauve. We had to cancel shooting.”

Feeding Ken’s Crisis

Ryan Gosling went on a 72-hour fasting cleanse to prepare for his emotional breakdown scene. Griselda broke it with:

  • A single spoonful of Lavender Oat Empathy Porridge, served on a moonstone spoon

  • A side of Vulnerability Vinaigrette

  • One unspoken look of maternal approval

“That man cried mid-chew. I knew I’d done my job.”

In-Universe Martian Cuisine

For the banquet scene with the alien drag council, Tumbleton created thirty distinct Martian dishes, including:

  • Space Noodles of Destiny – Translucent pasta soaked in starlight-infused brine

  • Terraform Tarts – Pastries shaped like repressed memories

  • Moonchego Bites – Vegan cheese balls filled with bio-luminescent empathy jelly

All were edible. None were advisable.

“The wardrobe team begged me to stop using glitter as a spice. I said: Barbie wouldn’t.”

Barbie’s Sacred Snack Time

Every day at 3:33 PM, the entire set paused for “Snack Affirmation Ritual.” Tumbleton handed out:

  • Mini “You Deserve This” Rice Cakes

  • EmpowerMints™ — tiny pink peppermints embossed with words like “brave,” “bold,” and “blow up the patriarchy gently”

  • “Cosmic Crustables” — interstellar PB&J’s shaped like shooting stars

“Snacking is sacred. So is sugar with purpose.”

Ken’s Meat Crisis

There was one incident: a rogue PA snuck in beef jerky for Gosling. Griselda responded with a 14-minute spoken word poem called “Meat is a Mindset.”

“By the end, he gave the jerky to a dog and asked me to make him lentils that felt like closure.”

Local Sourcing, Martian Ethics

Tumbleton insisted on using Wichita Falls ingredients whenever possible:

  • Texan prickly pear for planetary punch

  • Local pecans for emotional grounding crusts

  • Cattle feed corn for Ken’s introspection grits

She paid all her teen interns in glitter, guidance, and gift cards to the local metaphysical bookstore.

Feeding the Martian Baby Goats

In the background of Scene 47, Martian goats lick Barbie’s boots.

  • These were real goats.

  • They had to be trained to only lick hope-flavored edible wax.

  • Griselda made it herself, from beeswax, vanilla, and shattered glass ceilings.

Kitchen Drama

One sous-chef was fired for referring to a dish as “low-cal.”

“Barbie doesn’t count calories. She counts cosmic possibilities.”

Griselda installed a kitchen gong. Anyone who body-shamed a muffin got one loud, resonant reminder.

Film Critics Taste the Future

A secret test screening was held in LA. As part of the experience, each critic received a small container of Barbie’s Midnight Mars Mousse — a black sesame and rosewater dessert that allegedly made one New Yorker editor cry about her mother.

“The mousse made me believe in hope. And dessert again,” said one test viewer.

Barbie’s Last Meal on Mars

In the film’s final act, Barbie hosts a farewell feast. Griselda created a table of “symbolic closure through snacking”:

  • Tiny taco shells filled with legacy and lime

  • Hot Pink Hydrogenated Truth Nuggets

  • DreamCake – a multi-layered chiffon tower with phrases like “you’re enough” baked into every layer

The scene was silent, except for forks gently clinking and the sound of Barbie whispering “thank you” to the food.

“I’ve never seen so many grips cry into a soufflé.”

What’s Next?

Tumbleton now tours under the brand name “Barbie Bites Back,” offering workshops on:

  • Culinary Feminism

  • Edible Boundaries

  • The Art of Consuming Without Apologizing

Her next book is titled “Feast Like You Mean It: Recipes from the Pink Planet.”

“Barbie taught me something: food isn’t just fuel. It’s a flavor-forward revolution.”
