When was the first Barbie doll introduced?

The first Barbie doll was introduced to the world on March 9, 1959. It made its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York City. This historic event marked the beginning of a cultural phenomenon that would captivate generations of children and collectors.

Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, the co-founder of Mattel Inc., who was inspired by her daughter Barbara’s imaginative play with paper dolls. Ruth recognized the need for a three-dimensional adult-like doll that could serve as a canvas for children’s dreams and aspirations.

The inaugural Barbie doll was presented in a black and white swimsuit, and she had a distinctive look with her blonde hair, blue eyes, and red lips. This first Barbie was available in two versions: the blonde Barbie and the brunette Barbie.
